Rep Kabiru Maipalace, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has disbursed ₦39.4 million in scholarships to 449 university students from his constituency in Zamfara State.
Maipalace, who represents the Gusau and Tsafe Federal Constituency under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), announced the initiative on Monday in Gusau while addressing journalists. He said the scholarships formed part of his broader educational intervention programme aimed at supporting orphans and underprivileged students.
“We have settled all registration fees for 449 degree students from my constituency studying in various universities across the country,” he said.
According to the lawmaker, beneficiaries are enrolled in institutions such as the Federal University Gusau, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, and the University of Maiduguri.
Maipalace, who also chairs the House Committee on Sports Development, said the scheme was introduced to ease the financial burden on less-privileged families amid current economic challenges.
“I am very serious about the education of our youths and women, especially considering the hardship many people are facing,” he said. “I urge the beneficiaries to make the most of this opportunity and ensure they complete their studies successfully.”
