Lagos Police Deny Arrest Of Lone ‘Free Nnamdi Kanu’ Protester

The Lagos State Police Command has denied arresting Mr. Declan Ihekaire, who staged a lone “Free Nnamdi Kanu” protest in the Iyana Ipaja area of the state.

In a statement posted on its X handle (@LagosPoliceNG) on Monday, the command dismissed reports circulating on some online platforms that Ihekaire had been apprehended and detained.

According to the police, officers only deployed teargas to disperse suspected miscreants and hoodlums who tried to hijack the protest and cause unrest.

“Ihekaire was merely cautioned on the need to operate within the confines of the law and avoid actions capable of inciting violence or disturbing the peace in Lagos. He was later allowed to go,” the statement read.

The command explained that the security operation, led by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, was part of a state-wide show of force to boost public confidence and reassure residents of their safety.

It reaffirmed that Lagos remains calm and urged residents to go about their lawful activities without fear.
