Kwara Requests Tougher Security After Attack Leaves Two Dead

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has appealed for increased security presence in the Eruku axis of Ekiti Local Government Area following a fresh wave of violence that left at least two people dead.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Wednesday, the governor condemned the attack and commiserated with affected families and worshippers caught up in the incident. He said he had asked for “immediate deployment” of additional personnel to reinforce existing security structures in the area.

AbdulRazaq further commended President Bola Tinubu for sending 900 more troops to Kwara, saying the deployment had already contributed to greater stability. He expressed confidence that the reinforcements would “provide further deterrence and permanent calm”.

The Kwara Police Command confirmed that suspected bandits attempted to invade Eruku at about 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said that officers, working with local vigilantes, responded swiftly to gunfire, forcing the assailants to flee.

Police later recovered the bodies of two male victims: one, named Aderemi, was found inside the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun; while another, Tunde Ajayi, was located in a nearby bush. A vigilante member, Segun Alaja, was shot and taken to the ECWA Hospital in Eruku for treatment.
