In a bold step towards revitalising the higher education landscape, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved a sweeping increase in funding for four tertiary institutions, quadrupling their monthly allocations.
According to a statement issued by Isah Abubakar-Tunga, the State’s Commissioner for Higher Education, the monthly cash allocation has risen from ₦10.5 million to ₦40 million across the institutions.
The colleges benefitting from this decision are:
Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu (previously ₦2 million),
College of Health Science and Technology, Jega (₦1.5 million),
College of Advanced and Legal Studies, Yauri (₦5 million), and
Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari (₦2 million).
In addition to this boost, Governor Idris has released ₦35.7 million to regularise over 500 students enrolled in programmes such as Health Education and Environmental Health, who had not yet been indexed for the current academic year.
Another ₦59.7 million has also been approved for the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accreditation process for seven courses run by the College of Health Science and Technology, Jega.
“These combined investments amount to ₦135.5 million, underlining Governor Idris’s firm belief in education as a cornerstone of long-term development,” said Abubakar-Tunga.
He added that the state government remained committed to ensuring that the higher education sector is equipped not only with the resources to operate but also to thrive.
