The Village Head of Mantau in the Yam-Maulu community within the Baure Local Government Area of Katsina State, Iliya Dakaci, has been dismissed from his position.
The Emir of Daura, Faruq Umar-Faruq, made this announcement on Tuesday, 20th May 2025.
The decision, conveyed in Daura by the emir, came in response to protests from local residents who demanded Dakaci’s removal due to his alleged connection to kidnapping activities.
Last Wednesday, residents held a peaceful demonstration calling for Dakaci’s ousting, as he also served as the representative for the District Head of Yan-Maulu.
The protesters claimed that Dakaci had been arrested approximately eight months prior after his name was mentioned by suspected kidnappers involved in the abduction and assault of the family of local philanthropist Sidi Usman-Waziri.
They further accused the dethroned village head of being directly involved in the kidnapping of a married woman, Zulaihatu, and her infant child in 2022, which resulted in a ransom of 20 million Naira being paid.
The emir affirmed that the Daura emirate would not tolerate any form of mistreatment towards its residents, stressing that the council is always available to those who wish to lodge complaints or report injustices.
He stated: “If anyone feels aggrieved, even if it is my own child who is involved, they should come forward and present their complaint to the emirate.
“This is an emirate for the people.”
Effective from Monday, 19th May, the emir announced that Dakaci would no longer serve as the village head of Mantau, and that a new representative would be appointed to ensure leadership characterised by justice and integrity.”
