Katsina Governor Declares Full Local Government Autonomy, Launches Empowerment Programme In Daura

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has announced that full local government autonomy is now a reality across the state, describing it as a milestone for grassroots development.

The governor made the disclosure on Wednesday during an empowerment programme held in Daura Local Government Area (LGA).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Radda had previously launched a similar initiative in Faskari LGA on 24 November, marking the start of a statewide rollout covering all 34 local government areas.

According to the governor, all local councils now receive their monthly allocations promptly, with funds released without delay. He emphasised that local government chairmen can attest to the consistent monthly disbursement of funds.

Radda also revealed that the state had received a comprehensive file detailing projects executed across Daura LGA, made possible by the timely release of allocations.

As part of the empowerment initiative in Daura, about 20 key stakeholders received N50,000 each, while 616 other beneficiaries were given N20,000 each. Other items distributed included 40 sewing machines for women, 24 motorcycles, and 40 water pumping machines.

The governor further announced that the General Hospital in Daura had been handed over to the Federal Government and converted into a Federal Medical Centre (FMC). He added that the state government had awarded a contract for the construction of a new general hospital in Daura, expected to be completed in 2026.

Radda also inspected ongoing projects, including roads and community facilities, and inaugurated the construction of a ring road and the main access road leading to the Emir’s Palace.

NAN reports that the Daura event forms part of a wider empowerment programme launched across the state, aimed at enhancing development in all local government areas.
