The Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, has sympathised with victims of the tragic Singer Market inferno in Kano.
Mahmoud, in a statement signed by her Special Assistant on Media, Mr Austine Elemue, in Abuja on Sunday described the incident as “heartbreaking.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that a fire outbreak at the Singer Market in Kano destroyed properties worth over N5 billion, affecting over 1,000 businesses and leaving seven persons missing.
According to the minister, the incident is a painful setback to the hardworking traders, whose daily efforts sustain families and contribute significantly to the local economy.
She noted that the loss suffered by the victims was beyond material possessions, touching the very foundation of their hopes and aspirations.
She called on relevant authorities and emergency management agencies to intensify efforts aimed at preventing future occurrences through improved safety standards, fire prevention measures and public awareness.
She also called for timely support and relief for victims to help them recover and rebuild their lives.
The minister reaffirmed her solidarity with the government and people of Kano State at this difficult time.
She gave an assurance of her continued prayers and support as the traders work toward recovery and restoration.
