Kalu Urges Benjamin Kalu: Declare Your Gubernatorial Intentions

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia North has asserted that the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu, cannot continue in a dual role of leader and observer.

In a recent discussion at his home, Kalu encouraged Benjamin Kalu to openly declare his gubernatorial ambitions if he intends to run.

“I have counselled my brother against running alongside him. If Benjamin wants to contest, he should announce his candidacy so we can prepare for victory. If he chooses not to run, he should revert to his House of Representatives seat. He cannot be both a leader and a passive observer; that’s my stance.”

Kalu addressed his absence from a recent event hosted by the Deputy Speaker, clarifying that there are no political disagreements between them and highlighting their strong relationship while seeking transparency regarding Benjamin Kalu’s political plans.

“I am consistently in contact with him in Abuja; he visits whenever he can. There are no issues between us. He just needs to clarify his intentions,” he reiterated.

Following his visit with Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, Kalu remarked that Otti is a model for infrastructure development in Aba. He reflected on his previous term as governor, where he aimed to utilise Aba’s resources to foster growth elsewhere.

“Aba and Enyimba City are well-known across Africa, and this begins with community safety. I initiated the Bakassi Boys to work with police and security agencies to ensure safety, countering claims of inaction during my administration. I established the foundation to develop Aba and Umuahia, including Ohambele.”

Kalu described his discussion with Governor Otti as private, asserting his rights as the longest-serving governor of Abia State. “My talks with him revolve around state matters. I am launching five factories in Igbere, set to start within a year, requiring harmony in the region.”

“I am a steadfast member of the APC and committed to driving the party’s efforts. To suspend me, a petition must reach the NEC. We need to strive for APC’s success both in the state and nationally. Politics is not just about gathering crowds; it is about substantial engagement. I have 40 years of business experience and a solid track record,” he concluded.
