Kaduna Invests €10m In Arla Farm To Strengthen Nigeria’s Dairy Sector

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, says his government has invested €10 million in Arla Farm, Damau, to boost milk production and expand the livestock value chain.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr AbdulKadir Mayere, Sani said the investment, made in 2023, aims to enhance productivity, attract investment, and create jobs.

“At full capacity, Arla Farm will produce up to five million kilograms of milk annually,” he said at the Arla-Dano Open Day in Kaduna.

The governor also announced new initiatives, including the Nigeria Dairy Centre of Excellence and a yoghurt factory, designed to empower smallholder farmers and improve milk quality.

Representing President Bola Tinubu, Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Maiha, described the farm as a product of the Federal Government’s backward integration policy.

Maiha said Nigeria produces only 0.7 million litres of milk annually despite its large livestock population, forcing the country to spend over $1.5 billion on dairy imports each year.

He added that new federal initiatives, such as the Partnership for Green and Productive Dairy and the SCREEN Project — supported by the Danish government — will promote sustainable and climate-resilient dairy production.
