Jigawa Govt Boosts Funding For Free Basic Healthcare Programme

The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved increased funding for its flagship free healthcare scheme, J-Basic, aimed at improving access to medical services for vulnerable residents across the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport, and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, during a press briefing held on Tuesday in Dutse, the state capital.

Musa announced that the monthly capitation for enrollees under the Formal Sector (217,134 individuals) and the J-Basic Healthcare Programme (143,500 individuals) has been increased from ₦300 to ₦500 per person.

“Following the successful implementation of J-Basic Healthcare Services for vulnerable citizens, this funding boost will strengthen the administration’s efforts,” he said.

He explained that the initiative is designed to provide free and accessible healthcare to the poorest and most at-risk residents of Jigawa, aligning with global standards for health insurance and universal health coverage.

Musa further stated that the J-Basic programme has been rated as the best in Nigeria so far, adding that the state government remains committed to its sustainability and continuous improvement.
