Al Jazeera Accuses Israel Of ‘Deliberately Targeting’ Journalists In Gaza

Al Jazeera Media Network has condemned the killing of five of its journalists in what it claims was a targeted Israeli strike in Gaza City, renewing concerns over the safety of reporters in the enclave.

The network said the journalists were killed on Sunday when Israeli forces struck a tent outside Al-Shifa Hospital, where its staff had been stationed. It described the attack as “blatant and premeditated” and part of a broader pattern of violence against the press during Israel’s ongoing military campaign.

Al Jazeera accused Israeli forces of attempting to silence coverage of “the impending seizure and occupation of Gaza,” and characterised the wider military offensive as a “genocide” that has resulted in mass civilian casualties, hunger, and the destruction of entire communities.

The statement called on international bodies to take concrete action to stop the targeting of journalists and to safeguard press freedom.

The Israel Defense Forces said one of the journalists killed was linked to Hamas – a claim the broadcaster has not publicly responded to.
