Nigeria’s university admissions board, JAMB, has scheduled a mop-up examination for 28 June 2025 to accommodate thousands of candidates affected by previous biometric or logistical issues during the UTME exercise.
The development was confirmed in a press statement issued on Sunday by Dr Fabian Benjamin, spokesperson for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
The exam, which aims to give a fair opportunity to 96,838 eligible candidates, includes those who missed the earlier sittings or failed biometric verification.
Dr Benjamin clarified that notification slips for the mop-up test can be printed starting Monday. He urged those in the 8:00 a.m. time slot to report to their centres at least an hour ahead of time.
JAMB is taking a firm stance on integrity, having delisted or suspended 113 CBT centres implicated in widespread irregularities. Investigations, led in collaboration with Nigerian law enforcement agencies such as the DSS and NSCDC, have already resulted in multiple arrests and ongoing prosecutions.
“The crackdown has exposed not only criminal networks among candidates but also a number of school owners and even JAMB personnel who colluded in identity fraud,” Benjamin said.
Due to the scale of these malpractices, several exam towns have been removed from the list of venues for the upcoming mop-up. Candidates previously assigned to those towns will be relocated to nearby alternatives.
JAMB says the mop-up exam applies strictly to candidates from the 2025 UTME cycle, and warned that no additional rescheduling will be granted after this round.
