Iran Vows Response To U.S. Strikes As President Pezeshkian Speaks With Macron

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that the United States “must receive a response” for its recent military action, following airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The strong remarks came during a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, amid growing fears of a broader Middle East conflict.

In the official readout from Pezeshkian’s office, the Iranian leader called the U.S. attacks a “clear indication of bad faith” and accused Washington of undermining peace efforts with “aggressive and baseless” behaviour. U.S. President Donald Trump had earlier confirmed the strikes on Iran’s key nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—via his social media platform, Truth Social.

While rejecting calls for restraint regarding the U.S., Pezeshkian told Macron that Iran remains open to dialogue with Europe. “Diplomacy has always been our chosen path. No one is harmed by talking,” he said, suggesting a divide between Iran’s view of the U.S. and its relations with European nations.

Macron reiterated France’s interest in continuing negotiations with Iran and expressed support for de-escalation efforts. However, the region remains tense after Israeli strikes earlier this month reportedly killed senior Iranian commanders, scientists, and civilians. In retaliation, Iran launched missile and drone attacks on Israel.

Iran’s Health Ministry reported that the recent strikes resulted in over 400 deaths and more than 3,500 injuries. Israeli officials confirmed at least 24 deaths on their side.
