Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Türkiye, warned Wednesday that the war triggered by attacks on Iran must be halted before it escalates and engulfs the wider region.
Addressing members of his ruling party in parliament in Ankara, Erdogan stressed that diplomacy remained the best path to de-escalation.
“This war must be stopped before it grows and throws the entire region into flames. If diplomacy is given a chance, it is entirely possible to achieve this,” he said.
Erdogan added that Türkiye is continuing diplomatic initiatives aimed at restoring negotiations and reducing tensions.
“We are patiently continuing our initiatives to return to the table and negotiations and to bring diplomacy back into play,” he said.
The Turkish leader also noted that authorities in Ankara are taking precautionary measures against potential attempts to inflame sectarian divisions or trigger other destabilising scenarios across the region.
Türkiye has repeatedly called for restraint as tensions escalate in the Middle East following attacks targeting Iran.
