Insecurity Crisis Forces Bauchi To Suspend All Academic Activities

The Bauchi State Government has suspended academic activities across all educational institutions in the state as insecurity continues to spread in Nigeria’s northern region.

The directive, issued through a statement from education ministry spokesperson Jalaludeen Usman, takes immediate effect and applies to all primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, including federal and privately run schools.

According to the ministry, the shutdown follows consultations with security agencies and stakeholders amid “overwhelming concerns” for the welfare of students and staff. The government said it acted to prevent potential attacks and school abductions.

“Although we understand the disruption this may cause, the safety of our children comes first,” the statement said, urging parents and school authorities not to panic. The government pledged that schools would reopen once the situation is deemed safe.

Nigeria has witnessed multiple school kidnappings in recent years, with armed groups increasingly targeting educational facilities. The Federal Government last week ordered the closure of 41 unity schools, while several northern states — including Kwara, Plateau, Niger, Benue and Katsina — have taken similar action.
