INEC Reports Smooth, Large-Scale Voter Registration In Jos

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Jos and across Plateau State has drawn a high turnout, with officials pointing to improved systems and orderly conduct.

Speaking in Jos on Tuesday, Electoral Officer for Jos North, Abubakar Abdullahi, described the exercise as seamless, noting that residents were coming forward in large numbers for new registrations, transfers, corrections and card replacements.

The registration drive, which began online on 18 August before biometric capture commenced on 25 August, is running simultaneously in all 17 local government areas of Plateau. Abdullahi said upgraded INEC devices had reduced delays, and contingency measures were in place to address network interruptions.

Residents welcomed the process. “It didn’t take me up to 20 minutes to complete my transfer and corrections,” said participant Jolene Sati, who praised INEC staff for their professionalism. “What I’ve seen here today shows that we are working towards credible and transparent elections in Nigeria.”

Journalists visiting centres at INEC’s state headquarters and in Jos South reported similarly strong turnout.
