INEC Prepares For Imo Voter Registration With Intensive Staff Training

Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has moved to strengthen the credibility of its voter register by training 112 staff in Imo State on the use of its Voter Enrolment Device (IVED). The move comes ahead of the in-person Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise scheduled to begin in the state on Monday.

Speaking at the close of the training, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Imo, Professor Sylvia Agu, said the exercise was not only technical but transformational. “Every voter who receives their PVC because of your diligence is a step toward consolidating our democracy,” she told participants.

Modules covered included the management of CVR processes, use of the IVED machine, and handling of claims and objections during the display of preliminary registers.

Agu urged officials to maintain neutrality, stressing that compromises would not be tolerated. She assured residents that security measures were in place to protect staff, materials and the public throughout the exercise.

The CVR will take place in three phases across Nigeria, ending in August 2026.
