The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 2,802,790 voters are eligible to participate in the Anambra governorship election scheduled for 8 November 2025.
INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan disclosed this on Monday at the Peace Accord Signing Ceremony organised by the National Peace Committee (NPC) in Awka.
According to Amupitan, the commission has finalised plans to deploy 24,000 election personnel and materials to 5,718 polling units, 326 ward collation centres, and 21 local government and state collation centres across the state.
He reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting a transparent and credible election, warning that any attempt to manipulate the process or engage in vote-buying would be met with strict legal consequences.
“The ICCES has instituted comprehensive security measures for the election,” Amupitan said. “The Police will deploy 45,000 personnel, while the Civil Defence Corps is sending 10,250 officers, in addition to other supporting agencies.”
The INEC chairman said voters should expect improved logistics and result transmission processes during the election.
Emphasising the importance of peace, Amupitan urged candidates and their supporters to uphold the spirit of the Peace Accord.
“Peace is not guaranteed by the signatures on this paper but by genuine commitment to its terms,” he said. “Disruption of peace endangers logistics, election officials, and ultimately, the credibility of the process.”
He called on political actors to send a strong message of unity and democratic responsibility to the electorate.
“Let Anambra be remembered for peaceful, inclusive, and credible polls. Democracy thrives in an atmosphere of peace and tolerance,” Amupitan stated.
The INEC boss also expressed optimism that the cooperation of security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, and the media would ensure a successful exercise.
“By God’s grace, the 2025 Anambra Governorship Election will be peaceful and successful,” he said, commending the National Peace Committee for its continuous role in promoting harmony and stability in Nigeria’s democratic process.
