Imo Assembly Passes Vote Of Confidence On Gov Uzodimma Over Security, Development

The Imo State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Hope Uzodimma for what it described as his exemplary leadership in strengthening security, protecting citizens, and driving socio-economic activities in the state.

The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Mr. Chisom Ojukwu (APC–Nkwerre) during plenary on Wednesday in Owerri.

Presenting the motion, Ojukwu said renewed security operations under Uzodimma had dislodged criminal hideouts and led to the rescue of former lawmaker, Mr. Ngozi Ogbu, from kidnappers.

He cited statistics showing a drop in armed robbery cases from 502 in 2022 to 391 in 2024, representing a 22 per cent decline. Ammunition recoveries, he added, rose from 1,142 in 2020 to 2,242 in 2024, with over 1,500 recorded in the first quarter of 2025.

According to him, the improved security has restored nightlife in Owerri, boosted the hospitality industry, and repositioned the state as an emerging tourism hub with growing cultural attractions and visitor inflows.

Several lawmakers, including Kennedy Ibeh (APC–Obowo), Kelechi Ofurum (APC–Owerri North), and Uche Agabige (APC–Orsu), backed the motion, praising Uzodimma’s efforts in security, infrastructure, and community policing through local vigilante groups.

The motion was unanimously adopted, with Deputy Speaker Amarachi Iwuanyanwu (APC–Nwangele), who presided, directing the Clerk to transmit the resolutions to the governor and other relevant authorities.
