Sheikh Bashir Solihu, the Chief Imam of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Ulama, has passed away at the age of 75.
The Chairman of the Islamic Missionaries Association, Sheikh Abdullahi Nurudeen-Adana, confirmed the development on Monday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin.
According to Nurudeen-Adana, the senior cleric died after battling an undisclosed illness. He said the late Chief Imam was a towering figure in Islamic scholarship and religious leadership in Kwara State.
Sheikh Solihu was appointed the 12th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate in 1983 and served in the role for over four decades.
He was known for his profound understanding of Islamic jurisprudence, steadfast leadership in religious affairs and strong commitment to promoting peace, unity and religious tolerance within the Muslim community and beyond.
Describing his death as a great shock and an irreparable loss, Nurudeen-Adana extended condolences to the Emir of Ilorin, the Kwara State Council of Ulama and the entire Ilorin Emirate.
