IGP Egbetokun Urges New Recruits To Reject Corruption, Uphold Citizens’ Rights

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has charged 374 newly graduated police constables to embrace integrity and reject practices that undermine public confidence in the Force.

Addressing the recruits during their passing-out ceremony in Minna on Tuesday, Egbetokun said the constables were entering a profession defined by service, sacrifice and responsibility to the Nigerian people.

He emphasised that their success would be measured not only by law enforcement but by the trust, safety and peace of the communities they serve. “Your uniform is a symbol of trust. Do not use it to intimidate or oppress,” he said.

The police chief highlighted that the recruits brought the total number of new officers under his leadership to 20,000, part of wider efforts to boost manpower and efficiency in the Force.

The Commandant of the Police Training School, ACP Yunusa Isah-Wakili, urged the officers to avoid repeating mistakes often criticised within the Force, particularly human rights violations, and to contribute meaningfully as the country moves towards the 2027 general elections.
