The Igbo Union Nzuko Ndi Igbo, a socio-cultural and pressure group, has declared its readiness to overwhelmingly support the re-election of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, in 2027.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Convener of the Union, Prince Elias Odoemena, said Governor Otti had earned the people’s trust through his developmental strides, and would be rewarded with “not less than 83 per cent of the total votes” if the election is free and fair.
“The only currency used in paying back love is love. Ndi Igbo are not ungrateful people and will definitely pay Governor Alex Otti back with love for the transformation of Abia State in a short period of two years,” Odoemena said.
He noted that residents of Abia, including non-Igbos, would vote massively for Otti, leaving only a fraction of the votes for opposition parties. According to him, the governor’s achievements in infrastructure, human capital development, and inclusive governance had restored hope after years of neglect under previous administrations.
Odoemena praised Otti’s approach to governance, highlighting his road projects in Aba, Umuahia, and rural areas, as well as his efforts to attract investments without resorting to borrowing. He described Otti as a “cool-headed servant leader whose priority is service to the people and humanity.”
The statement also pointed out the governor’s humility, noting that his wife has remained modest and has not been involved in extravagant government spending.
On Otti’s dedication, Odoemena said the governor rarely stays outside the state, except for a brief trip to Miami, Florida, to attend the wedding of musician Davido Adeleke, whose father later donated ₦500 million to support Abia’s security network.
The group also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for approving the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and partnering with Otti on the planned Abia Airport at Nsulu. It further appealed to the Federal Government to support the proposed seaport project at Azumiri.
Odoemena cautioned politicians against blackmailing the governor, warning that such attacks would be viewed as an affront to the Igbo people.
