Germany will be without Vanessa Voigt at the upcoming biathlon world championships in Switzerland because she has to end the season early due to health problems.
World championship and Olympic relay medallist, Voigt has rarely competed lately due to a respiratory illness.
“After several medical checks, I won’t be competing in any more races this season.
“I can hardly find the words at the moment and it will certainly take me some time to find them again, but my health is still my top priority,’’ the 27-year-old said on Instagram on Tuesday.
Voigt also suffered from mental problems last summer but then, started well into the season with two World Cup podium finishes in December.
However, the illness then hit, and she had only featured in two races in January before now ending the season.
“The 2024/25 season was a real struggle right from the start. An up and down that not only affected my head, but my body in particular in the end,’’ Voigt said.
The German ski federation said that Voigt will need time to get well again.
She will miss the Feb. 12 to 23 worlds in Lenzerheide and would focus on next year’s Olympics in Italy. dpa/NAN)
