Vice-President Kashim Shettima has honoured Hadiza Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination and Head of the Central Delivery Coordination Unit, for her distinguished contributions to Nigeria’s governance.
Speaking at a colloquium in Abuja on Tuesday marking Usman’s 50th birthday, Shettima described her as a “mirror for the northern Nigerian girl and the nation,” recognising her influence in shaping national policy with a blend of courage, vision and excellence.
He noted that Usman’s rise in public service reflects deliberate effort, resilience and a commitment to building functional institutions. “Her journey required courage, and she has become proof that ambition, even in challenging contexts, is achievable,” the Vice-President said.
Several notable figures highlighted Usman’s achievements. Sen. George Akume, SGF, described her life as a model of discipline and encouraged her to remain steadfast in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda. Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila praised her reforms at both state and national levels, particularly at the Nigerian Ports Authority, which he said elevated standards of governance and service.
Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande recognised Usman’s contributions to youth-focused initiatives, while NEMA DG Zubaida Abubakar celebrated her decades-long commitment to public service. Keynote speaker Dr Joe Abah reflected on leadership lessons from her life, stressing the importance of making a tangible impact while serving at senior government levels.
In her response, Usman expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Shettima, and other attendees for their support throughout her career. She recalled her roles in election planning and at the NPA, reaffirming her dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda and ongoing efforts to improve governance in Nigeria.
