Governor Uba Sani Denies Paying Bandits, Dismisses El-Rufai ‘Mentorship’ Claims

Governor Uba Sani has rejected claims that his administration pays ransom to armed groups in Kaduna State, describing such allegations as “falsehoods spread for political gain.”

Speaking in a television interview, Sani said his government relies on both military operations and dialogue with community leaders to tackle insecurity, particularly in Birnin Gwari. “We have not paid one person a dime. Anyone suggesting otherwise is only trying to mislead the public,” he declared.

The governor also dismissed suggestions that he is politically beholden to former governor Nasir El-Rufai, stressing that his political compass was shaped instead by President Bola Tinubu and late rights activist Gani Fawehinmi. “My focus is Kaduna. I don’t talk about individuals; I don’t get distracted,” he said.

On the violent disruption of an opposition meeting, Sani denied involvement and urged patience with police investigations. He also pointed to the APC’s electoral success in the state as evidence of broad-based support. “We don’t run government on the basis of religion or ethnicity,” he said.
