Gov Idris Mourns Kebbi Assembly Speaker, Usman-Zuru

Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi has expressed sorrow over the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Usman-Zuru.
Idris’ condolence message is contained in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Yahaya Sarki, on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi.
The governor described the death of Usman-Zuru as a tragic and monumental loss to Kebbi State and the nation at large.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the late Speaker died on Monday in a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been receiving treatment for a prolonged illness.
The speaker’s death was confirmed by Alh. Suleiman Shamaki, the Clerk of the House.
According to the statement, the governor is devastated by the loss of a trusted ally, committed lawmaker and outstanding leader whose devotion to duty, humility and wisdom distinguished him.
“He was a pillar of legislative stability and democratic governance, as well as a dependable partner in our collective efforts to advance the development of Kebbi State,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
The statement  also quoted the governor as saying that the late Speaker’s death had created a vacuum in the state’s leadership.
He said Usman-Zuru’s calm disposition, maturity in handling state affairs and commitment to unity would be greatly missed.
“Usman-Zuru was a man of honour, integrity and loyalty, who served the state with distinction and left behind a legacy of selfless service.
“Kebbi has lost one of its finest sons at a time when his experience and counsel were most needed.
“The loss is not only personal to the government and people of Kebbi, but also a painful blow to the State House of Assembly, the political class and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him,” he said.
The governor prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
He also prayed for strength and fortitude for the family, members of the Kebbi House of Assembly, the people of Zuru Emirate and the entire people of the state to bear the loss.
The late Usman-Zuru, born on April 5, 1970, is survived by his wife and five children.
