Gombe Police Arrest Village Head Over Alleged Rape Of 12-Year-Old

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old village head from Zambuk community, Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area, over the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed this in a statement to journalists on Tuesday. He said the incident was reported to the Zambuk Police Division on Saturday night, prompting officers to visit the scene, rush the victim to General Hospital Zambuk for medical examination, and arrest the suspect.

Abdullahi, who condemned all forms of sexual violence, said investigations are ongoing and urged residents to promptly report such cases for swift action.

In a separate development, the police recovered vandalised electric cables, iron pipes, and railway track bolts in Bajoga Town, Funakaye LGA. An 18-year-old wanted armed robbery suspect from Kwadom community was also arrested after allegedly confessing to involvement in two robbery cases currently before the Gombe High Court.

The suspect and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the Anti-Violence Squad for further investigation and prosecution. Seven other suspects were also detained over alleged criminal conspiracy, vandalism, and theft of railway line steel slippers.
