FRSC Raises Driver’s Licence Production To 15,000 Daily To Clear Backlog

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has increased its daily driver’s licence production to 15,000 in a bid to clear the backlog of pending applications nationwide.

Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja while inspecting the VIP capture centre alongside journalists.

Mohammed stated that the increase followed the upgrade of the agency’s printing facilities, which is aimed at resolving persistent challenges associated with the issuance of driver’s licences and vehicle number plates.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the FRSC plans to launch an enhanced and upgraded system this month to improve the processing of driver’s licences and number plates. The new system is expected to significantly shorten waiting times, speed up service delivery and enhance data accuracy, as part of broader efforts to modernise operations through technology.

The Corps Marshal explained that the improved capacity will enable the agency to clear all outstanding applications by the second week of November 2025.

Over 200,000 Licences Remain Uncollected

Mohammed expressed concern over the non-collection of 206,000 already printed licences, urging applicants to visit designated centres to collect their documents.

“Out of the 800,000 backlogged driver’s licences nationwide, 400,000 have been printed, with 206,000 of them yet to be collected by applicants,” he said.

He added that the reduction in backlog was made possible through a sustained effort and the dedication of personnel working in shifts, including late-night operations.

Commitment to Service Efficiency

Mohammed reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to efficiency, transparency and timely service delivery. He said a comprehensive plan has been put in place to maintain increased productivity and prevent further delays.

He praised FRSC staff for their dedication, noting that many officers continued working beyond official hours to meet production targets.

The Corps Marshal expressed optimism that with the renewed effort, driver’s licence production would soon return to normal, and delays would be eliminated.
