Former Presidents Jonathan And Akufo-Addo Pay Tribute To Buhari, Recall His Pan-African Leadership

Nigeria’s former President Goodluck Jonathan and Ghana’s former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have paid glowing tributes to the late Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a steadfast leader whose tenure was marked by dedication to national unity and integrity.

During a condolence visit in London to Vice-President Senator Kashim Shettima, who is leading a delegation to repatriate Buhari’s body, Jonathan praised Buhari’s legacy in consolidating democracy and maintaining stability in Nigeria. Jonathan noted that Buhari’s leadership style and principles would continue to shape the nation’s political history.

Akufo-Addo, meanwhile, highlighted Buhari’s commitment to pan-African ideals, citing his active role in fostering regional peace, boosting economic ties, and combating terrorism in West Africa.

Mr Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, described the meeting as emotional, with both former leaders offering condolences to the Nigerian government and its citizens.

Vice-President Shettima travelled to London at President Bola Tinubu’s request to oversee arrangements for bringing Buhari’s body home for burial.

The delegation includes Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum, Minister of Foreign Affairs Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, and Deputy Chief of Staff Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia.

According to the presidency, arrangements are in place to ensure Buhari’s return to Nigeria is marked with dignity and a state burial that honours his life and service.
