Former PDP Chairman Promises Party Will Overcome Challenges As New Leadership Takes Over

Umar Damagum, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has assured that the party will overcome its current difficulties and emerge stronger.

The assurance came during a formal handover ceremony to the new National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja on Tuesday. Damagum acknowledged that the party had faced setbacks, including the loss of several governorships to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but remained confident in PDP’s future.

“We are a party to beat; that is why they are trying to frustrate us. We are people of faith. God is just and does not support injustice,” Damagum said.

Receiving the handover documents, the new National Chairman, Tanimu Turaki, described the task ahead as enormous but expressed confidence that his team was up to the challenge. He promised that the new NWC would restore the party’s winning spirit.

“We will take the party back to the people. There will be no impunity, and there will be no injustice,” Turaki said.

He added that the PDP was at a crossroads, noting that some sought to undermine the party, but emphasised that democracy thrives when multi-party competition is preserved.

Turaki also stated that the new leadership would study the handover notes carefully as a guide for governance and called for the cooperation of former NWC members.
