Retired Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, former Nigerian Chief of Army Staff and ex-Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, has strongly denied media reports alleging that he was recently attacked by Boko Haram militants in Borno State.
In a statement released on Monday by his media aide and former military spokesperson, retired Brigadier General Sani Usman, Buratai dismissed the claims as “entirely false” and a fabrication intended to mislead the public.
“For the avoidance of doubt, General Buratai observed the Eid celebrations peacefully in Abuja surrounded by family and friends,” said Usman. “He has not travelled outside the Federal Capital Territory since then.”
Usman described the false report as “a reckless attempt to spread fear and confusion,” and criticised what he called the “irresponsible behaviour of individuals determined to malign a man who has dedicated his life to national service.”
He extended gratitude to concerned Nigerians and supporters who reached out in the wake of the false story, saying their support was deeply appreciated.
“This episode serves as a reminder of the need to combat fake news and uphold journalistic integrity,” Usman added. “No amount of malicious propaganda can diminish the legacy of someone who has served this nation with honour.”
