Florida Man Crosley Green Turns Himself in to Serve Life Sentence Following Overturned Murder Conviction

Crosley Green, a Florida man, turned himself in to authorities on Monday to serve his life sentence for the 1989 killing of Charles “Chip” Flynn, after his murder conviction was overturned in 2018 and then reinstated by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in 2022. Green’s conviction was originally overturned because prosecutor Chris White had failed to turn over notes to the defense that could have helped Green’s case.

Green’s lawyers had appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, but the highest court declined to hear the case, leaving Green with no further legal options. Green had been released from prison in 2021 while the case was still pending, but was ordered to return to prison by April 17 after his appeals were exhausted.

Despite facing a life sentence, Green remains hopeful of clearing his name and proving his innocence. His lawyers with Crowell & Moring, a Washington D.C.-based law firm, have argued that Green’s conviction was based on faulty evidence and unreliable witness testimony.

Green’s case has attracted national attention and raised questions about the fairness of the criminal justice system. The case has also highlighted the importance of prosecutorial transparency and the duty of prosecutors to turn over all evidence to the defense.
