Flood Victims In Yobe Receive Aid As NEDC Steps In

Thousands of families displaced by devastating floods in Yobe State have received relief supplies from Nigeria’s North East Development Commission (NEDC).

The commission announced on Sunday that 2,261 households across 21 communities in Potiskum, Nangere and Jakusko council areas were supported with food items such as rice, spaghetti and vegetable oil, alongside non-food items including blankets, mats and clothing.

For many, the assistance has come as a lifeline. “The August flood destroyed my entire home and left my family homeless,” said Balki Ahmed, a beneficiary in Potiskum. “This support has come at just the right time.”

Potiskum council chairman, Alhaji Salisu Mukhtari, commended the intervention but warned residents against building on flood-prone areas. He pledged continued investment in drainage clearance and waste management to reduce the risk of future disasters.

The NEDC appealed to individuals and charities to also lend their support, noting that rebuilding lives after the August floods will require joint efforts.
