A mud building collapse in Jigawa State, northern Nigeria, has left one person dead and seven others injured, officials confirmed on Monday.
The incident occurred in Kabak village, Kirikasamma Local Government Area, after heavy rains swept through the region on Sunday. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) had previously identified the area as one of those at risk of flooding this year.
Police spokesperson SP Shisu Lawal said survivors were rushed to hospital, while warning residents to prioritise the structural safety of their homes during the rainy season to prevent further casualties.
Kirikasamma council chairman Muhammad Wakili Marma described the collapse as “very unfortunate” and urged residents to stop building on waterways. He visited the hospitalised victims and provided financial support to both the injured and the family of the deceased.
