The Federal Government has appealed to the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) to suspend its planned nationwide warning strike.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. Muhammad Dingyadi, made the appeal on Wednesday during a meeting with the union’s leadership in Abuja.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), nurses across the country, under the umbrella of NANNM, have announced a seven-day warning strike beginning Wednesday night, citing unresolved issues related to welfare and working conditions.
Their demands include:
Improved working conditions
Enhanced welfare packages
Adequate staffing
Increased recognition
Access to resources
Better remuneration
Dingyadi urged the association to reconsider its decision, emphasizing that strike action is not the best solution to industrial disputes. He encouraged the union to remain committed to dialogue as the government works to address their concerns.
The minister further revealed that discussions will continue on Friday at the Federal Ministry of Health headquarters, in a bid to reach a peaceful resolution.
