Federal High Court Fixes Nov. 13 For Judgment In Lamido-PDP Chairmanship Dispute

The Federal High Court in Abuja has set Thursday, Nov. 13, for judgment in the chairmanship dispute between former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Justice Peter Lifu made the ruling after counsel for Lamido, PDP, and joined parties, including INEC, adopted their processes and presented arguments. The judge had earlier restrained PDP from holding its national convention and INEC from supervising or recognising its outcome, pending the hearing of Lamido’s suit.

Lamido had approached the court after being denied the opportunity to purchase the national chairmanship nomination form, citing a breach of the party’s constitution. He expressed sadness at having to resort to legal action despite his long-standing membership, stressing that due process must be followed to protect democracy.

The interim restraining orders remain in effect, and the court’s judgment on the substantive suit is awaited.
