Federal Government Declares Public Holiday To Pay Tribute To Late President Buhari

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced Tuesday as a public holiday to honour the memory of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday at the age of 82.

In a statement signed by Mrs Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, the declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

Tunji-Ojo noted that the decision aligns with the seven days of national mourning declared by President Bola Tinubu.

He said the public holiday serves as a gesture of respect for Buhari’s years of service to the nation, his role in Nigeria’s democratic journey, and his enduring impact on governance and national development.

“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation,” the minister remarked.

He encouraged citizens to honour Buhari’s memory by fostering peace, patriotism and national unity, which were central to the late president’s vision for Nigeria.

Tunji-Ojo concluded by extending the government’s deepest condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina, and all Nigerians, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
