FEC To Pay Tribute To Late President Muhammadu Buhari

The Nigerian government has announced a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to honour the memory of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on 13 July in the United Kingdom.

The session, set for Thursday, 17 July at 1:00 p.m., will be held in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with President Bola Tinubu presiding.

Described as a solemn occasion, the event will bring together senior officials, ministers, and close allies of the late leader to reflect on his contributions to national development and governance. President Tinubu will lead the ceremony with a formal tribute recounting Buhari’s service to Nigeria as a military officer, former Head of State, and two-term civilian President.

Other members of the cabinet are expected to deliver short remarks, offering reflections on Buhari’s legacy in public sector reform, anti-corruption efforts, and democratic leadership.

The event is part of a broader programme of national mourning coordinated by the Federal Government in honour of the late President.

Buhari, who ruled Nigeria as a military leader from 1984 to 1985 and later returned to office as an elected President from 2015 to 2023, was laid to rest in Daura, Katsina State, in line with Islamic funeral rites.
