FEC Pays Tribute To Late Buhari: “A Disciplined Leader Who Inspired Millions”

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has paid tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, 13 July, in the United Kingdom, describing him as a disciplined and visionary leader whose dedication to Nigeria remains an inspiration.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, conveyed the council’s condolences in an official statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of the SGF.

Reflecting on Buhari’s service to Nigeria—both as military Head of State from 1984 to 1985 and as a two-term democratically elected President between 2015 and 2023—Akume praised his unyielding fight against corruption and commitment to national unity.

“The late president led with calm strength, moral clarity and unmatched devotion to the Nigerian project,” the SGF said. “His vision for a better, safer and more transparent Nigeria inspired millions across the country and beyond, as well as posterity.”

In recognition of his passing, President Bola Tinubu has directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast nationwide for seven days, beginning Sunday, 13 July.

Furthermore, the President has summoned an emergency session of the Federal Executive Council on Tuesday to formally honour Buhari and reflect on his legacy of public service.

The FEC extended heartfelt sympathies to Mrs Aisha Buhari, the late president’s family, and the government and people of Katsina State.

“May Allah grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus,” the statement concluded.
