FEC Approves ₦142bn For Modern Bus Terminals In 6 Geo-Political Zones

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the construction of modern bus terminals in Nigeria’s six geo-political zones at a cost of ₦142,028,576,008.17.

Minister of Transportation, Senator Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, announced the decision after Wednesday’s FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu, stating that the contract was awarded to Messrs Planet Project Limited.

The terminals will be located in Abeokuta (South-West), Gombe (North-East), Kano (North-West), Lokoja (North-Central), Onitsha (South-East), and Ewu, Edo State (South-South).

Describing the project as the Federal Government’s first direct intervention in road transport infrastructure beyond road construction, Alkali said the locations were selected based on economic viability.

He noted that the absence of purpose-built bus terminals has contributed to crime, road accidents, and the proliferation of arms on highways.

The initiative, he said, aims to improve transport safety, enhance passenger comfort, and stimulate economic growth.
