Authorities in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have cancelled all public park licences in Abuja, citing widespread violations of urban planning rules.
Mukhtar Galadima, head of Development Control, said operators must resubmit their papers for review before licences are reissued.
“This is not a witch-hunt. It is about restoring order. All park allocations were withdrawn due to consistent violations,” he told reporters, confirming that a ministerial committee would oversee the process.
The announcement followed the demolition of Boulevard Park in the upscale Maitama district, where Galadima said activities had strayed far from the site’s original approval as a recreational facility.
FCT authorities said future allocations would only be granted to operators who adhered strictly to urban policies, including submission of approved designs before opening.
“The FCT is governed by law, and lawlessness will not be tolerated,” Galadima said.
