Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have condemned the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) over persistent power outages affecting Kubwa, Kuje, and Dutse.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday, residents said electricity rarely lasts more than five hours a day, causing frustration and disrupting daily life.
Mrs Eniola Williams, a civil servant in Phase 2, Kubwa, described the situation as “frustrating,” noting that for the past three months, power supply was limited to about three hours daily. She suggested alternating days of supply and called for infrastructure upgrades to improve service.
Mrs Oluchi Emeka, also from Kubwa, said the unstable supply had caused many small businesses to collapse.
Mr Emmanuel Ogar, an engineer in Kuje, explained that unreliable electricity prevents proper food storage, while Mr Emmanuel Ogbomo, a welder, lamented losses due to reduced business activities.
Mrs Dorcas Edet, a fashion designer in Dutse, revealed she often works at night due to daytime blackouts.
Residents are appealing to AEDC to upgrade its infrastructure and ensure consistent, reliable power supply to meet growing demand.
