FCT Elections: NSCDC Commandant Calls For Neutrality And Discipline

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a peaceful conduct of the forthcoming Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory, as its FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, charged personnel to uphold professionalism and neutrality.

Speaking on Wednesday at a strategic meeting with senior officers at the corps’ FCT headquarters, Odumosu warned officers against partisanship, compromise or unprofessional behaviour during the electoral process.

The gathering included departmental heads, unit leaders, area commanders and divisional officers drawn from across the command.

Odumosu said the corps must continue to uphold high standards of integrity and alertness to remain effective within the FCT’s security architecture. He highlighted the NSCDC’s critical role in election security, in addition to its mandate of safeguarding lives and critical national assets.

He tasked senior officers with ensuring proper coordination of personnel across all formations to deliver a credible and violence-free election.

According to him, the protection of INEC officials, election materials and voters before, during and after the polls is a core responsibility that must be executed without compromise.

The commandant also urged officers currently undergoing election-related training at the FCT INEC office to comply strictly with standard operating procedures, noting that corruption or misconduct would not be tolerated.

He advised command leaders to intensify surveillance in their respective jurisdictions and foster cooperation with traditional institutions and local communities to strengthen intelligence sharing and rapid response mechanisms.

Odumosu praised personnel for their dedication and teamwork throughout 2025, which he said attracted commendation from the NSCDC Commandant General during a recent inspection visit.

He concluded by warning political stakeholders and supporters to shun violence, stressing that security agencies would enforce the law against anyone found disrupting the peace.

The Independent National Electoral Commission is scheduled to conduct the Area Council elections in the FCT’s six councils on 21 February.
