Peter Obi Warns Of Nigeria’s ‘Security Emergency’ After Weekend Killings

Former Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged the government to treat the country’s worsening insecurity as a national emergency, following reports of more than 100 deaths in coordinated attacks across several states.

In a statement shared on social media, Obi said the killing of soldiers, civil defence officials, and civilians in Borno, Sokoto, Katsina, and Edo underscored the depth of the crisis. He also condemned the kidnapping of commuters in Edo and the abduction of a Chinese worker.

“These are not isolated tragedies,” he wrote. “They are stark evidence that Nigeria is in the grip of a full-blown security emergency. No nation can prosper while its people live under siege.”

The former Anambra State governor extended condolences to the families of victims, praised the sacrifices of security operatives, and demanded swift justice for the perpetrators. He called for an immediate mobilisation of resources across federal, state, and local levels to reclaim the country from “lawlessness” and prevent a slide into anarchy.
