Ex-NYSC DG, Gen Tsiga Regains Freedom 56 Days After

The former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd) has regained his freedom after spending 56 days in captivity.

Tsiga was abducted from his hometown in Bakori Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State on February 5, 2025, alongside nine other residents.

His release comes after prolonged negotiations and the payment of ransom by his family.

While there were conflicting reports on the exact amount paid, sources alleged that the sum was significantly higher than the initially speculated N60 million.

A close family member revealed that after the ransom was delivered, the kidnappers remained silent for a week before contacting the family and allowing Tsiga to speak with them.

“The money was taken to them, and it was only after one week, on Tuesday, March 11, that they called, and we heard his voice,” the source said. He further disclosed that the kidnappers had attempted to demand additional payment, but no further money was given.

A top military source also confirmed Tsiga’s release, stating that he is in good condition. It was learned that he is currently in Zamfara State and is expected to be transported to Abuja soon.

Tsiga’s abduction and prolonged captivity underscore the prevailing security challenges in the region, where kidnappings for ransom have become a recurring issue.

Also a member of his family, Abdulahi Tsiga confirmed his release to our correspondent in the state.

His release brings relief to his family and associates, who had been anxiously awaiting his safe return.
