Engr Bello Babayo Bello Honoured As Sodaukin Kangyere For Exemplary Leadership And Service

The Emir of Kangyere has conferred the prestigious traditional title of Sodaukin Kangyere on Engr. Bello Babayo Bello (FNSE), Executive Director (Networks) at the Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria (NDPHC). The honour was bestowed in recognition of his outstanding leadership in coordinating the 30th Anniversary reunion of Government College Bauchi Kangyere Set ’95, which he successfully led to the Emir’s palace. Bello, who served as Head Boy of the Set ’95 during his school days, has continued to embody the values of discipline, unity, and service that defined his early leadership journey.

The conferment of the title is a cultural acknowledgement of his ability to bring people together and his broader contributions to society. Over the years, Engr. Bello has distinguished himself as a visionary leader whose work has touched lives across Gombe State. At NDPHC, he has played a central role in advancing industrial power infrastructure, most notably facilitating the flagging off of a 7.5MVA Injection Substation designed to generate and distribute 7.5 megawatts of electricity to the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park. This project is expected to energize industries and surrounding communities, driving economic growth and creating opportunities for employment.

In addition, under the leadership of the Executive Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, and through the efforts of Engr. Bello, a brand‑new 500 KVA transformer was provided to the Mallam Inna community. This intervention has brought an end to years of crippling blackouts that had stifled economic activities and posed serious challenges to residents. The transformer is now enhancing economic security and revitalizing local businesses, a gesture widely appreciated as both kind and supportive of grassroots development.

Beyond infrastructure, Engr. Bello has invested heavily in human capital development. In Bajoga Ward, his home community, he initiated a skills acquisition program for 100 women, equipping them with entrepreneurial knowledge in soap making and cosmetics production. Each participant received a cash grant to establish her business, a move that has been widely commended for fostering self‑reliance and economic inclusion. His commitment to rural development and strengthening local power networks has further improved electricity supply across Gombe State, aligning with the Federal Government’s collaboration with Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s administration to expand infrastructure and economic opportunities.

The recognition of Engr. Bello as Sodaukin Kangyere is both a cultural honour and a testament to his dual legacy: a leader who unites his peers and a professional who uplifts his community. From his days as Head Boy of Government College Bauchi Kangyere to his current role as a national figure in power infrastructure, he has consistently demonstrated vision, resilience, and impact. His story is one of service and transformation, marked by a rare ability to combine technical expertise with grassroots empowerment.

As the Emir and the people of Kangyere celebrate his achievements, many believe that Engr. Bello Babayo Bello’s leadership qualities extend far beyond his current role. His proven track record in infrastructure development, community empowerment, and unifying leadership suggests that he will do well if given an opportunity to lead the state. His honour as Sodaukin Kangyere is not only a recognition of past accomplishments but also a signal of the greater responsibilities he is capable of shouldering in the future.
