Ekiti PDP Governorship Candidate Begins Reconciliation With Primary Rivals

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr Wole Oluyede, has initiated reconciliation with fellow aspirants following his victory in the party’s primary election.

Oluyede, who emerged as the PDP candidate for the 2026 governorship race on Saturday, defeated three other contenders. On Monday, he, alongside his campaign managers and state party leaders, visited the campaign office of the party’s only female aspirant, Mrs Funmilayo Ogun, in the Ajilosun business district of Ado-Ekiti.

During the visit, Oluyede praised Ogun for her conduct throughout the primaries, commending her for maintaining peace and decorum.

“Mrs Ogun has called to congratulate me, and my visit today is to show that I do not take her fellowship for granted. Politics is about negotiation, and Mrs Ogun is one of the strongest supporters of my cause,” Oluyede said.
“I did not win because I am perfect or better than others. Ultimately, it is God who installs kings. All aspirants, especially Mrs Ogun, are equally good.”

He described Ogun as a “formidable ally” whose support would be crucial to his campaign, adding:

“With unison, Ekiti will soon be under a PDP government, with me at the driver’s seat.”

Ogun, in her response, said her actions were motivated by a desire to preserve party unity. She explained that, despite having grounds to challenge the primary results legally, she chose to concede to strengthen the PDP.

“Only one person can be governor at a time. My decision may not please all my supporters, but it was necessary to keep the party together,” she said.
“PDP in Ekiti is alive, moving forward, and poised to win the forthcoming gubernatorial election.”

Oluyede also expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership at both the national and zonal levels for their support during the primaries.
