EFCC Declares Ex-Petroleum Minister Timipre Sylva Wanted Over Alleged $14.8m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, wanted for alleged involvement in a $14.86 million fraud.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale.

According to the Commission, Sylva is wanted in connection with an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion of $14,859,257, being part of funds invested by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) in Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited for the construction of a refinery.

Oyewale said the EFCC on November 6 secured a warrant of arrest against the former minister from the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The order, granted by Justice D. I. Dipeolu, authorized the EFCC, the police, or any other law enforcement agency to arrest Sylva and bring him before the Commission to answer to the alleged offences.

The Commission appealed to anyone with useful information on Sylva’s whereabouts to contact any of its zonal offices, the nearest police station, or other security agencies.
