The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 25 suspected internet fraudsters during a sting operation near Bayero University in Kano State.
According to a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the arrests took place on Monday opposite the university’s New Site.
“The operation was based on actionable intelligence suggesting the suspects were involved in various cybercrime activities,” Oyewale stated.
All those arrested were confirmed to be undergraduates of Bayero University Kano. Items recovered during the operation included several mobile phones, laptops, internet routers, and a Honda Accord vehicle.
The EFCC noted that the operation followed weeks of surveillance linking the individuals to online scams, identity theft, and other forms of internet fraud.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will face prosecution upon conclusion of the inquiry, the agency said.
