Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has vowed that the state will deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, citing the administration’s impact on regional development and infrastructure.
Speaking at a gathering in Okaijesan Town Hall to welcome a wave of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Okpebholo said Edo people were increasingly aligning with the APC due to its inclusive leadership and policy success.
According to a statement from the governor’s media office, the event marked a significant political shift in Esan Central, where the governor’s constituency lies. “This movement is not about coercion—it is driven by the people’s recognition of real, visible progress,” Okpebholo noted.
Among those returning to the APC fold were several political heavyweights, including Anselm Ojezua, former chairman of the state APC, as well as local legislators, councillors, and former PDP leaders. Their return, Okpebholo said, strengthens the ruling party’s grassroots support ahead of the next electoral cycle.
“We will deliver 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu. This is a statement of trust, loyalty, and a belief in his developmental agenda,” he affirmed.
Also speaking at the event, retired Major General Cecil Esekhaigbe, a senior APC figure in Edo Central, reassured the new members of the party’s inclusive values. “The APC is built on unity and transparency. We welcome all who are committed to a better Edo,” he said.
